About the FRBCNZ
There are a number of Reformed Baptist churches in New Zealand scattered through both the North and South Islands. The earliest churches began in the early 1970s and their number has increased gradually over the years. For the first thirty years or so there were no formal denominational or associational ties between these churches, though many of them worked together and supported one another on an informal basis. This mutual encouragement and fellowship was based on their common doctrinal confession expressed in the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith (1677/1689), as well as the trust and friendship built up through regular interaction at both the leadership and congregational levels.
In December 2001 an invitation was sent to Reformed Baptist Church elders to a meeting to discuss the proposition, ‘That the Reformed Baptist Churches in New Zealand unite to form a Fellowship or Association of Reformed Baptist Churches.’ Discussions began in March 2002 and these led—in May 2005—to the inauguration of the Fellowship of Reformed Baptist Churches in New Zealand (FRBCNZ).
This website predates the FRBCNZ, having been originally conceived by Dafydd Hughes (then the Pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Christchurch) in 1999 to provide an online presence for the churches before many had their own websites, to express their Confessional unity and to publicise various joint ministries and events. In September 2005 it was adopted by the Fellowship as its official website.
There is no single point of contact for the FRBCNZ: those interested may follow the links through the CHURCHES page to contact any of the pastors; or communication about this website may be directed to Dafydd via Crosspoint Church.
